Changing Winnipeg

Developed through a collaboration between Bit Space Development, ZenFri Inc., and Centric Productions, the table features a user-adjustable timeline that triggers various map overlays and iconographic hotspots. These hotspots open pop-up windows containing historical text, feature images, and interactive elements such as animations of floods or distributed historical photos. Notable features include a "My Home Pin" function that tracks specific locations through time and a magnifying glass tool for detailed map inspection.

Throughout its development in 2019, the project underwent significant technical refinements to ensure a high-quality visitor experience. A major upgrade occurred in Sep 2019 when the team transitioned the display to 4K resolution to improve visual clarity, requiring substantial manual up-scaling of base maps and overlay content. Following its public opening in Oct 2019, the table has seen continued updates, including "touchless" modifications in response to the COVID-19 pandemic to allow for safe interaction. The exhibit's content covers critical historical events and themes such as the 1919 Strike, the development of Rooster Town, and major floods, with a bilingual interface supporting both English and French.

A 20-foot case with over 100 artifacts explores seven themes in Winnipeg’s history. A state-of-the-art touchscreen table explores changes over time using digital maps.

The Personalities Wall showcases 30 individuals in Winnipeg history from the 1870s to the present, who are part of the fabric of our community.
